Such a girl
I'm expecting Animal Control in the next little bit to pick up our friend.
She got to stay an extra day since they couldn't get to the house to pick her up yesterday, & she got a nice trip to the park with the boys.
Everyone there thought she was just adorable, which makes me feel even worse for sending her on her way. It's just not feasible for us, though, to have a puppy — & a large one at that — in the house right now. She's a little too excitable about cats moving through the house, & it is their house, too. I feel badly at times that they don't get the attention that they used to before there were two dogs here.
I hope that either her family finds her there soon, or that someone comes to the pound either today or tomorrow during adoption hours & falls in love with her.
I wish her well, & hope that we're doing what's best for her; maybe I'll go by tomorrow & check on her myself… .

Puppy sleepover
This little girl dropped by for a visit yesterday. My wife found her while she was out walking the boys, & brought her home.
I already have a poster out for her, but can't leave her home with alone since she's teething & anything is fair game! Not to mention that she's not quite house trained yet, as we found out last night.
She's just so sweet, though, that I don't know if I can call Animal Control to have her picked up! She's sound asleep in the bedroom corner, where she slept all night last night. On the other hand, I don't know if she can stay here all day, either.
If I came home & one of our guys were missing, I'd be on the phone, & out loking right away, & putting out posters... .
I can't believe that someone isn't out looking for her. She's very clean, & smells like she just had a bath. I imagine that she was on a porch, or in the yard, & that her collar somehow came off so she went exploring, as pups are wont to do. If I thought it wouldn't cause trouble, I'd just take her into work with me!
It's chilly enough today, that I don't feel like I can leave her outside in the kennel all alone, since we don't have a dog house out there yet, & she goes a little nuts in the crate ? we had to put her in there during dinner last night, because she wanted to "share".

It's spring!
It's the first day of spring, & they're calling for freezing rain & snow.
I find myself trying to remember the strip at Walden in which Zonker & Mike are walking through the snow, even though it's spring. As Zonk gets more agitated, he proclaims ? finger in the air, "By God Almighty, it's spring!", and there is one frame of Spring, leaving Mike looking a little bewildered.
I need that strip today! Just not sure where to find it.

Let's put this cruel practice in the dock
I remember that this had started out as a taxation practice, but really hadn't given it much thought.
And didn't know anything about how it was done.
One of our guys is part Jack Russell, with no docking, & I love the shape of his tail.
I don't think that he could be so expressive without it!

Shorter Days
Last month I had a call from Human Resources. It seems that a year ago, on my five year anniversary at this august institution, I was supposed to get a bump up in the amount of leave earned each month.
However, it was never changed in my file, so now I find myself with a year's worth of extra leave, on top of what I had already accumulated, with almost no way of using it all up this year — I already have as much as I can carry over at the end of the year, so short of taking every other week off, I'm gonna lose some of it come December 31st.
In an attempt to nibble away at it, I'm taking one or two half days off every week, Monday mornings, & Friday afternoons. And it's quite nice to have that extra time to myself. I have to admit that I'm pretty damn good company!
